Biodiversity Important Area 9 – Area Upper Dam dan Japarana




BIA ini terletak di daerah atas Dam dan dekat dengan air terjun Japarana; memiliki luas sekitar 48,1 hektar (ha). Daerah ini terdiri dari hutan pinus , perkebunan, semak belukar dan daerah pertanian. Lima spesies penting dicatat dan ditemukan: Owa Jawa, Lutung, Trenggiling, Landak Jawa dan Macan Tutul.

Ancaman yang akan terjadi untuk BIA ini dalam pekerjaan proyek adalah akan tereduksinya area BIA ini sebesar 15,2 hektar (ha) dengan adanya pekerjaan on-site meliputi Upper Dam, Upper Dam Camp B, Headrace Tunnel, Temporary Access Road dan Diversion Channel . Suara pekerjaan proyek dan debu dapat mengganggu kehidupan satwa liar dan vegetasi. Rekomendasi penanganan ancaman dapat diketahui sebagai berikut.

1. Avoid and minimize impacts where possible. 
2. Land clearing follows SOP (see Appendix 7). 
3. Expand the available amount of habitat by replanting areas connecting BIA‐9 with BIA‐7, BIA‐10, and BIA‐11, and expanding forest area to the north and south. 
4. Plant greenbelt around reservoir. 
5. Install rope  bridges and  culverts across roads and similar exposed areas to assist wildlife movement. 
6. Install traffic signs to avoid car collisions with wildlife. 
7. Install signs banning hunting and trapping by project workers.
